Ice Spice Swapped Her Signature Curls for a Retro Bob

Beauty is in its Old Hollywood era. Red nails are trending, everyone wants a retro bob, and Marilyn Monroe-esque waves are the new red carpet go-to. Blame it on Kim Kardashian’s obsession with the era or Megan Thee Stallion’s trendsetting waves, but everyone’s putting their twist on the trend—including Ice Spice. Over the weekend, the singer swapped her go-to curls for a retro hairstyle.

ICYMI: The BET Awards were this weekend, and as you’d expect, it was full of major fashion and beauty moments. Notably, Tyla wore “glowy, toasty” makeup, Taraji P. Henson wore a whopping seven different hairstyles, and Ice Spice tried on a new hair look: The 24-year-old arrived wearing her fiery orange hair in soft Old Hollywood waves and a short bob.

Spice channeled her “Princess Diana” song with pretty waves we know Lady Di would approve of. Her bob rested right at her jawline and featured classic, glamorous waves parted to one side. Each wave was styled in an exaggerated curl, adding to the hairstyle’s sculpted feel. The orange creamsicle shade of her hair put a modern touch on the vintage style.

For glam, Spice’s complexion was radiant and had the tiniest swipe of bronzer, adding color to her cheeks. The highlight of her makeup was her glossy brown lip and sleek retro black eyeliner.

The rest of her outfit followed the orange color palette. Like Tyla, Spice wore a vintage Versace gown from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2004 collection. The strapless dress had a large keyhole cut-out that revealed her stomach, with ruching in the center that blended into lots of ruffles. (It was as though Marilyn Monroe was put in a Y2K time machine). She paired it with matching strappy sandals and a butterfly diamond chain.

If you thought you’d seen every version of the French manicure, turn your eyes to Spice’s manicure for the night. Done by manicurist Aulani, her duck-shaped nails (think: a square manicure with a rounded edge) had extra-long French tips taking up most of her nails.

Old Hollywood glamour, but add a little spice. Her stamp of approval gives us an inkling that the retro trend isn’t going away anytime soon.
